A common poker variant is draw poker. During draw, each player is given a set of cards, but the dealer can remove any cards from the pack if he or she wishes. Once a player has used all of his or her cards, the remaining players are allowed to discard their cards.
The earliest version of poker was probably a French game called poque, which evolved into its modern form alongside the German game primero. Both games were adapted into New World versions by settlers from France and Germany.
